I realise I'm very intolerant of others. And although I like to pride myself as a 'soldier who is insular around other people with differences" I realise I'm not as great as I think.
Yesterday at the MRT I was at the gantry scanning my card to geddin, but behind me was someone nudging me exccessively with a white plastic bag, probably willing me to like hurry up. But there was no way I could geddin when my card was still being scanned wad. A few minutes also cannot wait meh. Then when I turned around and say that it was a short stout fat Indian woman with curls my irritation immediately intensified to a form of disdain. In my mind I was screaming, do not touch me, Indian. Lucky I'm not a politician's child or a famous man, if not I'm be haunted by this article for months to come.
The second episode occured when I was standing close to a pavement's edge, waiting for the pedestrian light to turn green, which after a while it did, but the people in front of me were oblivious , engaged probably in an engrossing conversation. Again, I cursed them silently "Can you two FRIGGING MOVE??!!
Another more horrifying phenomenon in Singapore is when a car, which is tailing you too closely, crashes into your own vehicle's behind when you immediately jam break for some reason. My driving instructor, who has encountered many such cases told me that, bar an isolated case, every perpetrator of the offence (in this case the guy who crashed into the guy in front) would simply come out of his car and start shouting madly about how bad a driver the front guy was, (you tailed him and crashed into him, brother. seriously, a pot calling the kettle black) amid flying spittle, and all the while gesticulating wildly, with not so polite gestures). It's a shameful thing to be worried about a crapped vehicle when the person in the front car might have sustained physical damage.
Singaporeans need to learn to be more gracious.
