supamun's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Wth la. I'm damn bored. Arsenal played Wigan again la. The script is now so familiar to me. Arsenal, with all their big guns out due to injury (Hleb, Eboue, Van Persie, Gallas) and with Henry nowadays too often firing blanks, and Walcott being the usual lousy crooser (always intercepted by first defender) and with Adebayor and Hoyte having the worst ball control of any players I've ever seen donning the gunners jersey, struggle to break down a weak wigan side, which offered Arsenal chances galore in the early stages to mount an unsailable lead. But of course they didn't. They allowed Wigan to score the first goal through a piledriver, which Arsenal sluggishly decided not to close down. Damn angry with Clichy. He neglected his defensive duties when the Arse were defending la. He chose to run forward, creating a gap in arsenal's left defence which we didn't close up, leading to them scoring first. Immeidately after the goal you could see rsenal injecting more pace and change their attack style from intricate to direct. And as usual Wenger decided to play 4 strikers on the pitch, coz with the kind of injury list we have now, that's the only way we can score. So he took out the weakest striker Walcott for Aliediere, and we had Henry Adebayor Baptista and Aliediere on the pitch. 3 giants and a more frail frenchman. ANd as usual i was left wondering "would this be the day arsenal surrender their record as the only unbeaten stadium in the EPL? I don't want it to happen but it seems likely. They are playing so lousy that you feel they can't score. But they ALWAYS score in the finishing stages. Look how they totally pulverised Man Utd, despite what our biased friend Timothy claims about them being robbed. We kept tightening the screw, and scored twice at the death to keep those 3 league points at Emirates. We again clawed our way back when Bolten score first, and yet again last week we showed our mettle and knack od last minute comeback goals when we equalised against boro. I hate to say this but the current arsenal side is a step backward from the 'free flowing', 'champaign football', 'the invincibles' and 'scoring scoring arsenal' days. Bergkemp and Pires would walk into our team. In the past, when I looked at Arsenal's star-studded midfield, there wasn't more than 1 player at anyone time elsewhere in the league who could garner a first tema place at Arsenal. Pires and Ljungberg were top scoring midfielders in their heyday, and Mighty Vieira and Gilberto, and even Edu, broke up world-class attacks with their tough tackling. Now, there's Lampard, Gerrard, and even Ronaldo (minus the diving. Joseph likes to say arsenal is dirty. look at your own team before you judge others). 12:33 p.m. - 2007-02-12 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
